Building the Panama Canal was truly an engineering feat. Its costs were monumental, with an unprecedented amount of money and human lives lost. Yet, this epic canal changed the course of history. Today, nearly 100 years after its completion, the Panama Canal remains one of the most vital trade routes in the world.

La Antigua Guatemala is a city in the central highlands of Guatemala famous for its well-preserved Spanish Mudéjar-influenced Baroque architecture as well as a number of spectacular ruins of colonial churches.
La Antigua Guatemala means the "Old Guatemala" and was the third capital of Guatemala. On September 29, 1717, an estimated 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit Antigua Guatemala, and destroyed over 3,000 buildings. Much of the city's architecture was ruined.

Costa Rica, which translates literally as "Rich Coast", constitutionally abolished its army permanently in 1949. The country is ranked 3rd in the world, and 1st among the Americas, in terms of the 2010 Environmental Performance Index.
In 2007 the Costa Rican government announced plans for Costa Rica to become the first carbon neutral country by 2021. According to the New Economics Foundation, Costa Rica ranks first in the Happy Planet Index and is the "greenest" country in the world.
